Joydeep Bagchi

Prof. Bagchi works in radio astronomy, high-definition imaging of large-scale and faint radio sources, observational cosmology, detection of structure formation shocks in large-scale structures, detection of magnetic fields in superclusters and filaments, high-energy X-rays and gamma-ray studies of galaxy clusters, supermassivle black holes and studies radio and X-ray jets.

Dr. Paranjape is interested in a number of topics in cosmology and gravitation: large scale structure, galaxy clusters, dark energy, primordial non-Gaussianity, general relativity, semi-classical effects near black holes and statistical techniques for cosmology. His recent work has focused on understanding the evolution of large scale structure using analytical methods such as the excursion set approach, the halo model, etc. as well as large volume N-body simulations to study the spatial distribution and evolution of galaxies, the inter-galactic medium and voids.

IUCAA is located at the north end of the campus of the University of Pune. The city of Pune is about 170 km south-east of Mumbai (Bombay) along the Mumbai-Pune expressway. Pune lies at an altitude of 559 m and the climate is mostly pleasant.

Visitors arriving at Pune by air can take a prepaid taxi or auto-rickshaw from the Lohegaon Airport, Pune, which is about 13 kms from IUCAA. Pick-up facility can be arranged by IUCAA for official visitors for which a request may be sent to (transport[AT]iucaa.in).

Visitors arriving at Pune by train can take an auto-rickshaw for the University of Pune and follow the signs to IUCAA from the University Main Gate.

Visitors arriving at Pune via Mumbai can either take a train from Chatrapati Shivaji Terminus to Pune Railway Station or a bus from Dadar bus stand, from where air-conditioned buses leave frequently for Pune. These take about three and a half hours to reach Pune.

Visitors arriving at Mumbai International Airport can take taxi from the airport to IUCAA. M/s Akbar Travels, M/s K.K. Travels, M/s Sandis Travels have counters in/outside the airport. M/s Akbar Travels have a currency counter inside the aiport. These cabs take about three and a half hours to reach Pune.
